37. The following spare gear for winches shall be carried, namely:—

Crank pin brasses, with bolts and nuts

Gudgeon pin brasses, with bolts and outs

38. A fred iron ladder with proper lateral support must be provided at the end of each batchway farthest from the winches 16 to admit of ready access to the holds.

39. No cargo to be shipped in trunks, tanke, tank bolde or bunker spaces of colliers, and all hatchways ars to be free of fixed beams and clear of all obstructions.

40. When required, colliermust be fitted with approved temperature tabes, and thermometers, to the satisfaction of the Admiralty authorities.

41. In the case of colliers chartered for two months or less the Admiralty are to have the right of refusing to accept notice of readiness (ride clause 4) if they are unable to commence loading through strikes, riots, lock-outs, or disputes between Masters and Men, and if they are prevented by these causes from commencing loading for six running days after the steamer is ready to load, the admiralty have the option of cancelling this Cherier.

42. The Master to apply to Messrs. Wm. Mathwin and Son, Cardiff, for instructions at Port of Loading, and to the Senior S Naval Officer or Officer appointed for cooling duties at the places of discharge.

43. The Owners guarantee that the tanke are oil tight at the commencement of the Charter, and bind themselves to take every possible precaution to maintain them in this condition during the continuance of the Charter, but are not responsible for leakage.

44. To facilitate the discharge of oil fuel to H.M. Ships, Owners undertake to provide a Y piece to Admiralty pattern for each discharge up to the maximum number which can be used simultaneously.

On the 30th ultimo our clients, the Wollowra

Steamship Co., Ltd., the owners of the above ship, were

informed that it had been requisiti oned for the use of the

Colonial Goverment.

On the 10th instant we addressed to the Commodore

a letter a copy of which is sent herewith.

We have to-day received his reply a copy of which

is also sent.

We shall be glad to be informed at your early

convenience what authority exists for the requisitioning

of a Britih ship for the use of the Government of this Colog

what the purpose is for which the ship is proposed to be

used, what are the terms on which she is proposed to be

hired, particularly as to war risk, the amount for which

the ship will be covered against war risk and the rate of

hire proposed.

A reply at your early convenience will be

appreciated.
